This morning I met up with long-time friends Steve Loper and Hobie Stebbins at Steve’s house on Lake Sammamish for some of our first waterski runs of the season. When I say “long-time friends” I really do mean long-time; we have know each other since junior high school, almost 50 years now.
Steve and I had a slight advantage over Hobie, who had not yet made even a single run this year. Steve and I had a chance to get in a couple of fast runs about a week ago, but we are nowhere near being in really good skiing condition.
Because of the miserable spring (more like extended winter) that we have had, the lake is still quite cold, and since the air temperature today was also rather chilly we all wimped out and wore full wetsuits. I am happy to report that the lake is noticeably warmer this week. We had a few days of unseasonably warm temps last week and it really made a difference. But I’m still glad I wore the wetsuit!
Following are a few photos from our runs. First photo is Steve and Hobie as Hobie gets ready to jump into the lake as the sacrificial goat/first run of the day. Next are two photos each of Hobie skiing, then Steve and finally me. I apologize that our technique is a bit on the rusty side, but we plan to keep at it as frequently as possible, and I hope that we’ll look better as the summer progresses.
