Newborn Baby Photos – Time to meet Addison!

Just over three years ago on June 11, 2016 I was the photographer at the wedding of Ashley Justesen and Justin Dreager, held at the Jardin del Sol.  This wedding is particularly easy for me to remember because June 11 is also my birthday!  A couple of months ago I discovered through Facebook that Ashley was pregnant and would be having their first baby sometime in the middle of June.  I got in touch with Ashley and Justin and congratulated them, and we discussed the possibility of some newborn photos once the baby was born.

But this baby had her own plans for when she was going to make an appearance.  Her due date of June 9 came and passed, and on June 17 Addison finally decided that it was time to make her grand entrance into the world.

It took a week for us to get together, but on Addison’s 7-day birthday I met up with the Ashley, Justin and Addison at their apartment in Everett for our newborn photo session.  We had carefully planned the timing to hit a time when Addison should be sleeping for the start of the session.  But once again Addison demonstrated that she had her own ideas for how the session should go, and within a few minutes of my arrival she was wide awake and showed very little inclination to go back to sleep.

Photographing babies can be a bit tricky when they are awake, especially if they are active.  Addison was definitely active!  This changed our strategy a bit, since she would not hold still for some of the close up shots we wanted, and also got very cranky when placed in certain positions.

But no problem, that is just part of taking photos of babies, especially very young babies!  We just changed tactics a bit and did slightly different photos.  Eventually Addison calmed down and we ended up with a lot of really fun photos.

I will look forward to weeing the Dreager family again next summer once Addison is walking.  I’ll bet that I get a real workout trying to keep up with her!
