Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot at Pike Place Market

This story goes back almost two years.  That was when Sarah and Jacob contacted me about being their photographer when they planned to be married in July of 2020.  They were currently living in New York, but Sarah is a Seattle native (Garfield high school) and they had decided that they would get married in the Seattle area.  We met when they made a trip out to see Sarah’s family in Fall 2019 and look at some wedding venues, and they asked me to be their photographer.  I was very happy to say yes!

Flash forward 6 months.  Everything was being shut down due to Covid, and everyone who had planned a Summer 2020 wedding was frantically trying to change their plans.  I spoke with Jacob and Sarah and assured them that I had no problem with them postponing the wedding for a year, and that if they decided to do so I would still love to be their photographer.  They did decide to postpone, and you will see my blog post of their wedding very soon.

The original plan was for me to meet Sarah, Jacob and their wedding party a day or two before the wedding for a fun photo session, since it was not practical for Sarah and Jacob to meet with me for a regular engagement photo shoot.  They thought that the Pike Place Market would be a fun place for this session, and I agreed.

When we got to this past spring in 2021 and Jacob and Sarah were finalizing their updated wedding plans, we talked again about the pre-wedding session and  decided that Pike Place was still where we should do the photos, even though we had no idea what the market might look like in July 2021, or even if it would be open!

As things worked out, the Market was not only open but pretty much its usual crazy and chaotic self when we had our session.  We met near Rachel the Pig, a landmark well known to anyone familiar with the Market and also a prime photo opportunity.  Once the whole group had arrived we made our way around first the Market and then down to the Seattle Waterfront for some photos near the Great Wheel.  While at the Market Sarah and Jacob just had to get some photos with the infamous Fish Throwers at the Pike Place Fish Market, and bravely stood while a large salmon was thrown back and forth over their heads.  Photos below!

The Waterfront was another fun stop, though it is quite different since a big accident last year that resulted in a large part of one pier breaking up and sinking.  This particular space had been a very popular location for tourists and city residents alike to visit when at the waterfront, and had been one of my favorite photo locations.  I sure hope it is rebuilt soon!
