Seattle Wedding Photography – Miriah and Roemon get married at the Lake Union Cafe

On December 27, 2016 Miriah Maher and Roemon Field were married at the Lake Union Cafe in Seattle.  Miriah is a student and had done all of her communicating with me by email or phone, so I had never met either her or Roemon until the day of the wedding.  Crazy how things are now, but this is the case in ~20% of all the weddings I photograph these days.

The Lake Union Cafe is a very cool and quite unique venue, and has been one of my favorite Seattle wedding venues since I first photographed a wedding there ~25 years ago.  Built in 1920, it features a beautiful wood dance floor that is also used to seat guests for wedding ceremonies.  A small stage at one end of the dance floor works well as the altar.  Tables and booths surround the dance floor, and the mirrored walls and wonderful lights make the facility feel much larger than it really is.  Downstairs is a large and well-lit bridal dressing room, and the guys also have their own space as well, though nowhere near as nice as the ladies get.  Grooms just get no respect!  😉

I met Miriah and her bridesmaids just before they were ready to get dressed, and had fun getting some shots of the ladies and the flower girl, who happens to be Miriah’s daughter.  Miriah and Roemon did not want to see each other before the ceremony, so I bounced back and forth between the two dressing rooms, as well as getting some shots of the family and guests as they arrived at the Cafe.

It wasn’t long before it was time for everyone to head upstairs and line up for the processional, and the wedding was underway.  The ceremony went beautifully, and a short time later Miriah and Roemon were officially married.

Once the ceremony was completed, the guests were moved back to the front lobby for drinks and appetizers while the staff turned the room.  I grabbed the wedding party and family so we could get a few posed shots before dinner.  Not an easy proposition as all of the guests were excited to greet the newlyweds, and many of those I needed for photos wanted to grab some food.  But we managed to get everyone together long enough for the critical photos.

Dinner was fantastic, and as the guests were finishing their meals the first dance for the newlyweds began, followed by the father/daughter and mother/son dances.  Then the dance floor was opened up to everyone and the party really got underway!  This was a hard-core dancing crowd, and once the dancing got started the floor was very busy until the party finally came to an end.

All in all this was a very fun wedding, with one of the best dancing groups I have worked with.  Pretty funny, but this past year I have had more really good dancing groups than I have had in years!  Everyone in attendance obviously had a great time, and would have happily stayed longer if they could!
