Lucinda’s Fantastic Bat Mitvah at Temple de Hirsch Sinai

I was the lucky photographer at the recent Bat Mitzvah for Lucinda Leviton, held at the Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Seattle.  The last two years have made Mitzvah celebrations difficult to impossible, as many temples basically shut down due to Covid restrictions.  Lucinda’s Mitzvah was one of the first held at De Hirsch Sinai since Covid restrictions were relaxed, and I have to believe that there are going to be a LOT of “catch up” Mitzvah celebrations happening in the next few months.

Lucinda did a wonderful job during the Mitzvah ceremony, and you’ll see some photos below.

Immediately after the ceremony everyone moved downstairs for a great lunch.  This was really for the adults who had attended the ceremony; the party for Lucinda and her friends took place that evening at Sodo Pop, an event and party venue located near the sports centers in the Sodo district.  While this party was primarily for the kids, there were some parents there as well.  It was a wonderfu party with a great DJ and EmCee who had a ton of games for the kids.  My favorite was the Mummy Contest, where the kids were broken up into three groups and one of the kids  from each group (including Lucinda) were then wrapped up like mummies in colorful crepe paper, with a prize given to the winning team.

I think my favorite part of every Mitzvah party is the dancing of the Horah, when the Mitzvah person is placed on a chair and then lifted overhead by the crowd while everyone dances.  You’ll see a photo below of Lucinda, maybe looking just a little nervous, as she is carried around the room.
